Bet On Sports Board of Directors Could be Arrested

Catherine Hanaway, Missouri's district attorney, issued a warning that any executives and officials of Bet On Sports PLC. can be arrested for contempt of court when they land on U.S soil.

Bet On Sports did not send legal representatives to the federal hearing in St. Louis last Monday.

The online gambling site had closed down its all operations claiming that the move is to adhere to the U.S. prosecutors demands. But the non appearance of Bet On Sports lawyers in the federal hearing suggests that the company did not intend to abide by the demands.

According to Hanaway, it was very unusual that someone will disregard a federal prosecution.

Marty Woelfle, U.S. Department of Justice organized crime and racketeering section, said that New York lawyer, Steve Cohen, was hired by the Bet On Sports to advise on the legal moves of the company.

Cohen said that he cannot comment the position of the company. He said that he is advising the gambling firm on some issues which includes jurisdiction.

Kevin Smith, spokesman of Bet On Sports, restates that the company was not properly served with any legal papers on the criminal and civil charges.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Ann Medler scheduled another court hearing for defendants that had appeared on August 21, but the date would likely to be postponed.
